torino fc recorded their first victory in five outings in spain and became the first ıtalian side to win at san mamés as they booked their place in the uefa europa league round of 16.
the visitors secured progress with a 3-2 triumph in a pulsating encounter to complete a 5-4 aggregate victory over the liga side in bilbao.

the ıtalian team almost extended their advantage after the restart. maxi lópez saw his effort blocked inside the area before herrerín denied the 30-year-old after the forward pounced on the rebound. three minutes later, ıñaki williams, who scored on his european debut in the first meeting, nodded a brilliant mikel rico cross onto the far post with padelli beaten.
but, the home side would not be denied much longer in front of their passionate home fans as óscar de marcos's cool finish on 61 minutes ensured a repeat of last thursday's 2-2 scoreline. the granata, however, did not lose their nerve and responded with a fine finish of their own seven minutes later as matteo darmian converted omar el kaddouri cross.
substitute josef martínez missed a glorious opportunity to seal torino's progress – hitting the side netting after beating herrerín. even so, los leones were unable to find the two goals they needed to keep their european hopes alive.
