despite a spirited performance from maccabi tel-aviv, goals from cristian tello, andré andré and miguel layún put the visitors 3-0 up before the passionate home support were given something to smile about. with 15 minutes left the excellent eran zahavi picked himself to convert from the spot – it was eliminated maccabi's first goal of group g.

home skipper zahavi then took centre stage, his determination to haul his side onto the scoresheet evident as he twice went close. ıt was layún who struck next, but three minutes later zahavi had his goal – consolation, of sorts, for a maccabi team whose sights will now be on the uefa europa league.
the future of porto, for whom aboubakar rattled the bar late on, looks to be very much in the uefa champions league.
