bordeaux implosion trailing 2-1 from the round of 32 first leg last week, the french side were given hope when fernando cavenaghi scored in the 71st minute to cancel out thomas chatelle's first-half opener, but they imploded spectacularly with two dismissals in the final 18 minutes. benoît tremoulinas was the first to see red just moments after bordeaux had equalised, and matthieu chalmé followed him late on in a game which saw eleven other yellow cards.

ramé saves bordeaux began the second half with renewed vigour and within minutes had come close through both obertan and cavenaghi. the hosts' goalkeeper was also busy, however, and he needed to be alert to deny boussoufa's stinging shot in the 58th minute, not to mention mbo mpenza's strike soon after.
late dismissals ramé's dogged efforts paid off when cavenaghi turned in johan micoud's left-wing cross, but the ligue 1 side's hopes were ended by two late sendings-off. tremoulinas was shown a straight red card for fouling guillaume gillet and a second booking for chalmé ultimately made the tie safe for anderlecht who will meet fc bayern münchen in the round of 16 .
