liverpool go into tonight's game knowing that they have to wipe out a one-goal deficit, and score sufficent goals themselves to progress though to the last eight of the european cup. it is demanding task-but one which. i know, the players will not shirk; and i am confident that our supporters will give them every encouragement.
on behalf of the club, i welcome the players and officals of trabzonspor on their first visit to anfield, and i would also like to extend a warm welcome to the u.e.f.a delggate, and to the match officials.
this is another importane european occasion for liverpool, and once agian it is my duty to remind our supporters that it is vital for the good name and reputation of the club to be upheld. i am sure that we can count on ypur co-operation, in this respect.
your loyalty is unquestioned, and there have been many occasions in the past when you have helped, by your encouragement, to spur the team on to victory. tonight, as i say, i am confident the players, will have your full backing once more. but please remember that there mosrt be no encroachment on the pitch ar any time-before, during or after the match. make your cheers count...
you know that the players will give everything, in their efforts to win, and make sure of a place in the quarter-finals.
