feyenoord booked their place in the uefa europa league round of 32 with a 2-0 victory at home to holders sevilla fc in group g.
jens toornstra and karim el ahmadi got the goals in the second half to ensure the dutch side can finish no lower than second, leaving sevilla and hnk rijeka to scrap for the final qualifying place when the club meet in spain in a fortnight's time.
after a slow start in rotterdam the tempo picked up after jordy clasie's powerful shot from distance was turned away. neither team, however, could find a clear path to goal until shortly before the break when kenneth vermeer saved alejandro arribas's header then saw josé antonio reyes's strike blocked from close range.
feyenoord too were looking threatening and both sides continued to make openings after the interval. arribas headed over from a sevilla corner before the eredivisie outfit took the lead, toornstra turning the ball in after good work from el ahmadi in the 56th minute.
sevilla had the ball in the net soon after, but arribas's header was ruled offside. feyenoord nearly struck on the counterattack only for jean-paul boëtius to hit the side netting, but they made the three points safe with seven minutes to play. colin kazım richards teed up el ahmadi who fired beyond goalkeeper sergio rico from the edge of the area.
