rosenborg bk bounced back from their opening 4-0 defeat at bayer 04 leverkusen to get the better of aris thessaloniki fc.
the visitors had much of the play and before the break carlos ruiz cancelled out morten moldskred's opener, but rade prica struck the winner midway through the second half. both sides now have three group b points, one behind leverkusen who aris welcome on 21 october and two ahead of holders club atlético de madrid, rosenborg's hosts that night.
aris upset atlético 1-0 a fortnight ago and began tonight in confident mood as ruiz's shot was touched round the post at full stretch by daniel örlund. the visitors continued to have the better of things but against the run of play rosenborg took a 37th-minute lead.
per ciljan skjelbred sent mikael dorsin clear down the left; his cross was diverted by an aris defender into the path of moldskred, whose finish was emphatic and a fine way to mark his return from injury. aris were level before the break when ruiz got away from his marker to turn in a low ball from the right by javito, the scorer against atlético, in a move begun by a clever sergio koke pass.
although aris continued to show ambition after the break, rosenborg's anthony annan had the first good chance, forcing michalis sifakis to parry from distance. and prica restored the home lead on 68 minutes, shooting inside the post on the turn from just outside the box following a swift counterattack.
moldskred could have scored again five minutes later following another dorsin cross but this time sifakis was able to put him off enough to shoot over. aris kept pressing, danijel cesarec curling the best of their chances above the bar as rosenborg held on.
