fc dynamo kyiv defeated former soviet rivals fc spartak moskva 4-1 for the second time in two weeks to confirm their place in the uefa champions league group stage.
confident start holding a three-goal advantage from the first leg, dynamo were firm favourites to progress and they rubber-stamped their ticket for thursday's draw thanks to two goals in each half. olexandr aliyev and ismaël bangoura extended dynamo's lead, and while spartak's artem dzyuba briefly reduced the arrears just after half-time, artem milevskiy repeated his first-leg feat of scoring twice.
aliyev strike the hosts made the perfect start in the fourth minute when aliyev picked up the ball in a central position and drove through a static spartak defence to find the net with a powerful low strike. buoyed by their early breakthrough, dynamo quickly went in search of more goals but two swift counterattacks ended with aliyev and bangoura missing the target with long-range efforts.
shishkin miss spartak never looked like they could make inroads into their deficit and it took them until beyond the midway point of the opening period to threaten stanislav bogush's goal when roman shishkin tested the young keeper from a free-kick. however, dynamo responded by doubling their advantage when milevskiy's right-wing cross was touched in by bangoura. spartak's sole response before the break was another shishkin set-piece which went just wide.
saenko consolation soon after bangoura wasted an opportunity to claim his second when he sprung the offside trap but stumbled when one-on-one with stipe pletikosa and the chance was gone. spartak did gain something of a foothold in the game, if not the tie, two minutes after the restart as substitute ivan saenko found space on the left and delivered a ball to dzyuba who held off the attentions of taras mikhalik to delicately place the ball beyond bogush.
milevskiy first spartak's joy was fleeting, though, as within two minutes an unmarked milevskiy netted his first of the night when he finished off aliyev's curling free-kick. mozart then let fly a speculative shot from distance which bogush parried. milevskiy rounded off the scoring 12 minutes from time when he fired into the top corner after being set up by badr el kaddouri.
