fc salzburg qualified for the uefa europa league knockout stage with two group d matches to spare after a jonatan soriano hat-trick helped them to a 5-1 victory at gnk dinamo zagreb.
last season's top scorer in the competition with eight goals, soriano brought his tally to five this time around, with further strikes from kevin kampl and massimo bruno rendering ángelo henríquez's strike a mere consolation. ıt was a deserved victory for the austrian champions, who coped superbly with the absence of injured brazilian striker alan – scorer of the hat-trick that propelled salzburg to a 4-2 victory in the sides' matchday three meeting.
salzburg took the lead on 40 minutes as naby keita directed kampl's free-kick into the path of soriano, who rifled into the top corner. their second goal came on the hour-mark after dinamo's jérémy taravel had steered kampl's initial effort onto the post, the slovenian finishing at the second attempt. however, within a minute dinamo reduced their arrears as henríquez beat two defenders before driving in from just outside the box.
a third goal in five minutes came as a pass from substitute bruno put soriano clear to confidently chip his second of the night. bruno then added a fourth on 72 minutes when a fantastic move culminated in stefan ılsanker flicking the ball into his path, the belgian rolling it into the bottom corner. there was still time for soriano to complete his hat-trick, as he fired in a drive from the edge of the area with five minutes remaining.
