two goals decided a game with nothing at stake, psv having already won group k and the hosts certain to finish fourth.
danko lazović's first-half penalty and substitute nordin amrabat's strike decided a game with nothing at stake for either side in group k, the hosts already guaranteed to finish last and psv having been crowned as section winners.
penalty strike cluj made the brighter start and yssouf koné should have given them an early lead when captain tony curled over an inviting cross from the right, only for the unmarked striker to direct his header wide of the target from eight metres. the miss soon came back to haunt the romanian side when their keeper boris peškovič floored lazović in the area as the serbian striker prepared to latch on to balázs dzsudzsák's low ball from the left flank. lazović made no mistake from the spot, coolly stroking in on 19 minutes.
psv chances the visitors were dictating the pace of the game and their swedish forward ola toivonen twice came close to increasing their lead before the break, first after being put through for a powerful angled shot which peškovič did well to block and then with a header from lazović's free kick on 40 minutes which the keeper managed to gather.
killer blow cluj showed more purpose after the restart, with juan culio linking up the play in the final third and fellow midfielder sebastián dubarbier having a shot charged down on the edge of the area after a neat passing move. psv still looked dangerous on the break, thogh, and toivonen's clever ball over the top of cluj's back four in the 68th minute allowed amrabat to scoot through and take his time before beating peškovič with a crisp shot.
seeking consolation though clearly heading for a fifth consecutive defeat in the competition, the hosts stuck to the task and were nearly rewarded when emil dică sent in a wickedly curling free-kick on 74 minutes to draw a fine save from andreas ısaksson. psv saw off the final threats, though, to head into the round of 32 on the back of a fourth section victory.
