first-minute scare the goal came after 15 minutes when antti okkonen's corner took a deflection and the ball landed perfectly in manso's path. before that odense had worried mypa and in the very first minute had hit the post, an incident that served as a wake-up call according to home coach juha malinen.
early goal important "the early goal was important, but odense hitting the post in the first minute really woke us up," he said. "we fought well and still managed to play our normal game. i'm happy with the result, but of course we still have 90 minutes to play in denmark."
referee intervenes after the goal mypa continued to dominate but odense nearly levelled after 39 minutes. however referee michael weiner had blown his whistle for interference before the ball hit the back of the net.
mypa in control in the second half mypa still had most of the play though neither of the teams were able to create anything of significance. it leaves the odense coach uffe pedersen with much thinking to do before the encounter in denmark.
coach confident "mypa didn't surprise me," he said, "but maybe i expected a little bit more from my own side. mypa played a good match and caused us trouble at the back. it's always difficult to play away against an unfamiliar team. a goal would have been important, but i believe we can turn things around at home."
