goals from filip šebo and karim guédé earned ten-man šk slovan bratislava a 2-0 victory against kazakh champions fc tobol kostanay.
šebo gave the hosts the lead four minutes before the break in the first leg of their uefa champions league second qualifying round tie in the slovakian capital. juraj halenár was dismissed on 67 minutes, but guédé nevertheless increased slovan's lead nine minutes from time ahead of next week's return.
slovan started the game in impressive fashion and were almost ahead on ten minutes, but jiří kladrubský's long-range effort was well saved by aleksandr petukhov. the slovakian side grew in confidence with šebo and halenár missing chances either side of the half-hour.
the breakthrough eventually arrived, though, šebo pouncing on the loose ball to put slovan in front after petukhov spilled kladrubský's fiercely struck effort. karel jarolím's side were reduced to ten men for the final 23 minutes after halenár was shown a straight red card.
tobol failed to make the most of their numerical advantage, however, and slovan doubled their advantage on 81 minutes. captain igor Žofčák found guédé inside the penalty area and the 26-year-old made no mistake to give slovan a two-goal cushion to defend in kazakhstan on 19 july.
